Leopard Mail.app: changed IMAP prefix, mail gone, connector 500

I had no IMAP prefix set in mail.app and changed it to INBOX in order to get to-do's working.
After this change, my inbox was empty.
I tried to open my inbox in connetor, but got a 500 error.
I then changed back to no IMAP prefix, Mail.app downloaded all my messages again (folders are ok) but my inbox stays empty. I miss around 50 mails.

Any ideas on where I went wrong?

using Thunderbird, I still see all messages in the inbox, so this might be a Mail.app problem

Did you quit and start your Mail again?

that did the trick. Now you just have to restart the connector :-)
