My, but the state of TextDrive is strong. When first we opened the doors last June, Jason and I we were of the opinion that 800 active customers twelve months on would be a fine target to reach. As of this morning - under nine months later - that number is 1231, serving over three thousand domains.
In addition to forming astonishingly successful alliances with developers of the best open-source software, we have undertaken several projects intended to funnel all our cumulative knowledge into finely-honed server management tools, including what shall be the finest, most scalable, most intuitive control panel known to humanity.
Okay, this place simply kicks ass. I believe the hosting service we offer is unmatched, and every day I'm reminded how great it is to have you people around. Having imagined a customer base that truly gets the things we do, we found it. And it just keeps getting better.
And now it's time to move to another level of operation, one which involves hiring on more people, paying some lawyers to move paper around, and generally thinking about the future, while staying independent and focused. And so:

Cool! Some questions, though: how many will you sell, and what happens to the remaining time (and money) of my current plan?

We're selling a finite number (I'll announce when they're getting scarce).
As to merging this with an existing plan: you can't. This offer is is an investment (with attendant risks, though still a ludicrously good deal, and for life) and so we won't be refunding any existing plans in exchange. This policy is unbudgeable.
Incidentally, to the VC200: your limits will be bumped to be commensurate with the new offer: 20 gigs bandwidth, 15 domains.

Just out of interest, are those the same specs applied to the original VC accounts.
Whatever - both VC offerings represent an amazing chance to get involved and are more than just a way to have sites hosted. What I've learnt from the responses and communication on the forums these past nine months has been invaluable.

Good luck for the next stage. As a VC200 I've been very happy to have helped get this started (in a very small way) and continue to be happy with the TextDrive combination of world-class hosting and support. And thanks for bumping up our specs too!

The original VC specs were 10gb, 10 domains. So this...

I'm interested in upgrading from the your old lifetime redux offer. Is this possible? How much would this be? Just the difference of price, which if I rerember correctly would be $200?

Many thanks for the VC-II offer, and for undertaking the whole TextDrive project.
A clarification would help me decide whether or not to sign on for a couple of VC-II accounts.
I, and a few other late-arrivers were in what might be termed "VC-1.01" (actually called Lifetime Redux). For the same price, we could mount 3 domains, and had reduced resources (200 meg. / 2 gig. traffic/month limits) compared to the VC-I crowd's (10 domains / 1 gig. / 10 gig. traffic/month). I speculate: might the 1.01 bunch (Lifetime Redux) be kindly alloted comparable increased limits? Was there any thought on the number of domains for the 1.01 (Lifetime Redux) accounts?
(Edits the next day, mostly in parenthesis, to get the facts straight on the original VC-I and Lifetime Redux deals, after checking over the archives here and over at TextPattern. When I wrote this I couldn't remember my own original deal, and um, they're not obviously visible these days.)

I'm glad to hear that TextDrive is doing so well. Congrats to the TextDrive team, and good luck on this new drive! If I hadn't benn in the 200, I'd be Paypalling (is that a word?) you right now!

Also very happy to hear that things are going wonderful with TD.

Dean could you define exactly what this means. I understand that you won't refund any plans that have been paid in advance, but for plans that are paid monthly one might argue that a Textdrive customer could host whatever domain they liked within their plan, including cancelling their current monthly pledge and starting afresh in a VC II account.
I'm not trying to be tricky or squeeze into a loophole between your words, just seeking clarification. This is a good offer but I haven't hit my 10 domain limit with my current plan, so I'd like to find a way to be involved without having 15 domain spaces potentially sit there unused.

Sure. If you're with us month-to-month, there's no reason for us to take it for granted you'll be here next month. That's why we charge less for yearly subscriptions. If you wanted to cancel your current monthly, and pick up with a VC II account when it expires, then by all means do.

Very nice, thanks Dean.
If I want to buy one of these new VCII accounts would I simply get a bump in domains/bandwidth/storage on my existing username?

Is this open to only new investors or can those who jumped in on the VC200 also participate in this offer?
Thanks! I love this place.
I don't see why it wouldn't be. Money is Money.
However, I could be wrong.

Very squishy indeed. At first I was going to cry "Unfair!", but now that we're being upgraded, the jokes on you (them)! ;) Kidding.
I don't intend to start a fight about this, but why $399? Are 5 domains and 10 gigs of bandwidth really worth that much more? Perhaps I just think that 299/349 would be more reasonable.
But then again, it is for life, so you could (theoretically) charge anything you want to.
Putting that aside, I wish you luck in completing this drive, which I you no doubt will (and quite soon).

How can you not thing that $399 for life isn't fair? If anything with that price I feel like we are still getting away like bandits.
Have you forgotten how great the service and everything else is here?

Did I forget? Well, unbelieveably, I did for that moment.
Without Jason's (et al's) wonderful service, this place wouldn't be much at all.

I really don't want to get into the hard-nosed actual market value of what we're offering here. If it strikes you that the price is directly connected to the bump in consumables, well... look. This is a steal. It would be at twice the price.

Yes!
Great. What would be the best way to acomplish this? Sign up and somehow specify that I'm an existing customer?
Thanks!

Damn this is a good deal!
I currently have two accounts, on two different servers (one and barclay), could I combine the two into one 'vctwo' account?....

Excellent. I'm signing up as an upgrade as soon as I get home :)
I'm glad I was here for a short while before this came up, since I wouldn't have gone for this "cold" without experiencing the service first. Now that I have, I plan to stick around a while, and the extra domains will allow me to move everything off my old host.
