Hi Textdrivers,
when I was in Rome with my girlfriend in October, she fell in love with a leather handbag. I want to give her this one for Christmas, but the store (which I reached by regular mail) does not ship to Germany, or anywhere else. In addition to this, it may be hard to describe the bag of choice.
So, I need your help. This includes going to the store, taking pictures of bags having a certain size (very small store, maximum three possible ones), sending the pictures to me to identify the right one, going to the store again to purchase the bag and shipping the bag to me in Germany. Phew! I can transfer the money for the bag (and maybe a little extra for the effort) in advance via paypal. The store is in the Jewish quarter of Rome, or to be exact: Google Maps Link
Your help is really appreciated!

Greetings
Ralph

It is so romantic. :) Is romantic derived from Rome?

Would this qualify as a LazyWeb request?

It sounds like he's already done the groundwork himself, but this sounds like his only option to get her the bag. Sure, it's relying on other, internet people to get something done, but hardly lazy.
That said, I wish I could help, but I'm a long ways off from Rome.

I know of two Italian TextDrivers - Neko and jcherfas (Jeremy)
Jeremy is listed from Rome, and he gave me some travel advice.
I'd drop them an email via the Forum, and see if they can help.

I meant something more tongue-in-cheek, quite some local effort required :)
Ralph, hope it works out!

Oh, Ralph, you're based in M

I'd love to see this pulled off. Someone get him the damn bag! :) Good luck Ralph!

Honestly, I'm a little too far away from Rome. If you needed something from Milan I could get it right away. Is that a one of a kind artisan bag?

Otherwise, gimme the phone number (or name & address) of that shop, I'll make a call and see if they ship within Italy. And ask if they can take a picture of the bags and e-mail it to me.

You know, this is kind of cool! We should start an online shopping buddy service or something.
Also, out of curiosity, I just have to know what this bag looks like :-)

I totally want to see this happen. It's like buying locally, globally. Distributed local shopping. Or something.
Anybody need anything from Flagstaff?
I want a bike from Holland :)
They won't sell to the US because of product liability insurance. But after riding one for 2 weeks while over there I want one bad. So if any T-Drivers want to hook me up with a ship job ;)
Lets see though, Flagstaff.... I know! I'll take some Fat Tire! I can't get that on the east coast and I miss that too.

@ralph, I was planning on going to the Web montag, but got sick.
@soulship, you know, those bikes get kinda expensive to ship

OK, I'm on this. I haven't been on the BB for a long time because, well, because things have just been working around here. so I'm glad Ralph emailed me. We'll work out a way to do the photo thing ... and I hope it all works out. I like the idea of playing a combo of Cupid and Santa's Little Helper

Where'd you go in the Netherlands?
Offline
Hmmm, Amsterdam and Rijksmuseum of course, as well as a few "coffee shops". Stayed on a houseboat for about a week in Amsterdam. Then off to Brugge for 3 days (Highly recommended). Then back to the Netherlands where we stayed in Haarlem for three days. Haarlem I have to say was my favorite stay. Its very intimate and I would love to move there. Then we went to Alkmaar for the last two nights which was nice, but a bit touristy. We are coming back in the summer and plan to stay in Haarlem as our central point for staging day or multi-day excursions from there. Definitely would love to permanently relocate though. I fell in love and felt like I fit right in to the whole scheme of things.

Soulship - I've had my eye on a Batavus bike that looks darn-near identical to those Gazelles. They sell Batavus bikes here in Toronto, and will ship anywhere in North America. Check it out here: http://curbside.on.ca/swf.

Sweet Philip! I called them and they have free delivery right now. I just ordered my Xmas gift from Santa for myself. Thanks for the tip! :) :)

Nice! I hope to join you soon with an Old Dutch soon, though it's unpleasant enough in Toronto now that I wouldn't start biking until the spring. :)

Hi Textdrivers!
Thanks to Jeremy, the bag has really arrived at my home. I find that pretty incredible, and i have never done such a thing before. So thank you everyone for helping me and pointing me to the right people, it's awesome that we can do such things, although we have never met before. I wish you all a merry Christmas, and I'm sure I'll have a good time, too.

That's fantastic! :D Looking forward to the actual picture of the bag after Xmas, I guess.

And to round the whole story off satisfactorily -- at least until the bag is delivered to its intended -- the money arrived in my account minutes after I gave Ralph the details.
What astonishes me is that nobody here has built a site called shop4u.com to make this sort of transaction even easier in future.
